I purchased a cigarette socket phone charger for my 2006 Volkswagen Polo. When plugging the charger into the socket in the dashboard console, with the engine switched off, the charger would not work. Once the engine was turned on the charger worked fine. I presumed that cigarette chargers worked when the car was switched off. Open the glove box, pull in the sides and remove the glove box. There's a map to the fuses on the side of the glove box, the cigarette lighter one is on the second row from the top, second one in from the left. Just pull it out and replace. Hello I have just added dash cam to my Mondeo 2015 Hybrid via front Cig lighter socket but notice that when I turn ignition off and close up the car power is still running to dash cam and it stays on. Same with rear passenger socket as well. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. 5 posts · Joined 2009. #2 · Mar 1, 2010. hi you must have 3 wires to the socket. i've unmounted mine just to check and it's like this. 3 wires. orange -> +12V (to the center of the socket) brown -> +12V (to the side cilindric bulb) black -> 0V ground (to the exterior of the socket) Note: the colors may differ, but the socket and the socket's 1. I remember something from my past. The brake lights are on a different circuit, that is why they still work. The tail lights are in some way connected in the cigarette lighter circuit. Chef Duane You can find a rubber grommet that fits around the wire, drill a hole in the rear of the old burnt out cig lighter the size for the grommet to mount on, then thread the wire through the hole, and wire it up to your interior fuse box where the old cigarette lighter wiring went, or put an inline fuse in, and run it directly to your battery During this time, check the cigarette lighter socket.
